Officer in Charge of the Pothuvil Police Station in the Eastern Province filed a court case against a group of 7 villagers in Panama for accessing their property.
Accordingly, the case was filed against the respondents for trespassing the forest in Ragamvela on November 21, 2009, which has been declared a reserved forest by Forest Law (No.13 of 1966), Forest (Amendment) Act (No.56 of 1979, Forest (Amendment) Act (No.13 of 1982), Forest Act (No.84 of 1988) and Forest (Amendment) Act (No.23 of 1995) and breach of article 6 (a) of the Forest Ordinance (Chapter451) as amended by Act No. 13 of 1966.
Among the witnesses to this case was the Forest Ranger of Ragamvela.
The court acquitted the respondents on the basis that the petitioner was unable to substantiate to which category the forest belong.
