Ain O Salish Kendra with other human rights organizations filed this public interest litigation against the eviction of around 40,000 landless people from various char areas of Noakhali district in the name of shrimp project, violating the provisions of the Land Reform Ordinance and Land Management Manual.
The Court on September 01, 2004 passed an order of stay directing the government not to evict the landless people from the khas land of the char area till disposal of the case, and also issued a rule nisi calling upon the government as to why the action for eviction of the landless people shall not be declared without lawful authority and is of no legal effect.
The landless people are residing there peacefully. The case is pending for hearing.
